Emily Francis Reynolds was born on March 14, 1839, in Thomaston, Georgia, the child of Herbert H. and Zillah Reynolds.

She married first Sandy Allen Chappell on October 27, 1857, in Upson County, Georgia and they had five children together. On Dec. 31st 1862 he was killed in the battle of Murfreesboro/Stones River during the Civil War. She then re married Leroy Wilson Ellington a widower, and they had eight children together.

She died on January 18, 1918, in Johnstonville, Georgia, at the age of 78.
