Mr. Peckham has been a life-long resident of this community and his sterling worth is recognized by all who knew him. Claude E. Peckham was a member of the first fire fighting crew of the Poplar Ridge Fire Department established in August 1921.
He was born July 20, 1862, the youngest son of John and Harriet Peckham, at the Peckham homestead west of Poplar Ridge. He was married in 1864 to Mary Durfee. Last Fall Mr. and Mrs. Peckham celebrated their fifty-fifth anniversary at their home in Poplar Ridge where they came twenty-six years ago, from the homestead farm where they had made their early home.
Mr. Peckham is survived by his wife, Mary Durfee Peckham; a daughter, Mrs. Frank Olmstead of Leonia, N.J. and two grandsons, Allen Olmstead, living in North Carolina and Paul Olmstead, who will live at Poplar Ridge while attending classes at Cornell.
Funeral services were held at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon from his late home. Interment was in King Ferry cemetery.
Bearers were Louis Howland, John Stephenson, Horace Reynolds, Arthur Landon, Glen Smith and Harry Culver.
