STEPHENS, Gordon Fitzhugh
Passed away peacefully in his home on May 19, 2008 surrounded by his loving family. Born June 12, 1926 in Los Angeles, he was the son of June Young and Gordon F. Stephens.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 57 years, Marylin; and their three children, June Sweeney (Jim), Julie McCloskey (Terry), and William Steve Stephens (Stacey);
and his six grandchildren, Pearson and Carey Sweeney, Trevor and Mary McCloskey, and Camille and Jillian Stephens;
and many relatives and friends.
As a native of Los Angeles, he attended Third Street Elementary School, John Burroughs Junior High School, and Los Angeles High School, during which time he earned the designation of Eagle Scout as a member of Boy Scouts of America, troop 10.
While attending the University of Southern California he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity and served with The Trojan Squires and Knights.
After receiving his degree from the USC School of Business in 1949, he worked for Coldwell Banker Real Estate in property management until his retirement in 1987. Gordon cherished his family and upon retirement in 1987 he enjoyed traveling, playing golf and bridge. He was also an avid gardener growing his own vegetables as well as flowers.
There will be a celebration of his life on Thursday, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church located at 3903 Wilshire Boulevard two blocks west of Western Avenue in Los Angeles.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Pepperdine University's Youth Citizenship Seminar or Children's Hospital, 5000 West Sunset Boulevard, Los Angeles, California 90084-7924.
