Donald was the youngest of eight children, born to the late Albert and Alice Mosher Asfahl.
He was retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the Inspector General as an Auditor. Memberships include, Walnut Street Baptist Church, TLC Bible Study Group, Oasis Senior Group, AARP, and the League of Voters. Donald served his country proudly during World War II in the United States Coast Guard.
He was married 60 years to the mother of his children, Kathryn before her passing.
Donald met his current wife, Leila at the AARP.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Donald Rue Asfahl Jr.; and seven brothers and sisters.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Leila Asfahl; two children, Donald Lee Asfahl (Sharon) and Marilyn Kay James (Joe); five grandchildren, Sarah Segree (Joe), Melissa Robich (Mark), Jeffrey Asfahl (Abby), Robert James (Erin) and Melanie Hubbs (Ryan); and seven great-grandchildren.
A service to celebrate the life of Donald will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Walnut Street Baptist Church, 1101 South Third Street. Burial will follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in the parlor of Arch L. Heady and Son at Westport Village and from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church
