Barton and Origin Mowry were Mormons who came to San Francisco on the Good Ship Brooklyn in 1846 and settled in Washington Township in an area that came to be known as Mowry's Landing. They owned a steamship called the Neptune which made regular trips to & from San Francisco transporting grain.
