son of Samuel Spring(1770-1846) and his wife Eunice Stowell(1777-1841)of Grafton, Vermont

He married Lucy Upham in 1837 in China(now called Arcade), daughter of Samuel Upham(1788-1851), and his Polly Hardy(1787-1845)

Leverett Spring, older brother of Samuel Stowell Spring of Franklinville. Leverett came to China, NY in 1836 from Vermont. He read law with Daniel Kellogg in Vermont, where he was admitted into practice in 1835.. He was not limited to Wyoming County & practice in surrounding counties. In 1837, He was elected Magistrate and served for 6 years. Later he became Town Supervisor of(China)& renamed the village to Arcade in 1842. Besides being an attorney, he was a farmer. In 1840 He became a Member of New York Assembly. He helped start Arcade Rural Cemetery, 1st Superintendent of Baptist Sunday School. He was an Abolitionist, helped many slaves to freedom. In 1876, He became District Attorney of Wyoming County, NY.

He & his family were originally buried behind the Congregational Church on Church street, just across from their home. But as it was next to the creek, it flooded and the gravestones were destroyed., so NO Gravestones excist for this family. The bodies were removed to Arcade Rural Cemetery.
