☆~ VETERAN, WORLD WAR II (1939-1945) ~☆

Delmer L. Brand, of Bertrand, passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2013 at the Bertrand Nursing Home. Delmer was born March 26, 1920 on the family farm east of Smithfield in Gosper County, Nebraska, one of six children born to Herman Frederick and Margaret Catherine (Brooks) Brand.

Delmer received his primary education from Gosper County District #64 and then graduated from Smithfield High School with the class of 1938.

Following his education, Delmer engaged in farming on the family farm with his father until his enlistment into the United States Army, serving his country during World War II from October 16, 1941 until his honorable discharge on October 11, 1945.

In 1946, he was united in marriage to Jean Holmquist and to this union two children were born: Dick and Peggy. The family made their home north of Bertrand on the Phelps/Gosper County Line, where Delmer continued to farm and raise cattle and hogs. Delmer and Jean continued to reside on the family farm until failing health, when they began to make their home at the Bertrand Nursing Home.

Delmer and Jean loved to square dance, travel in their motor home throughout the United States, and enjoyed playing cards with friends in later years. Delmer was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bertrand.

Delner was preceded in death by: parents; brothers: Roy and Leon Brand; sister, Ethel Ebmeier; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Brand; step-grandson, Kevrin Douglass and step great-grandson, Clayton Herron.

Delmer is survived by his wife, Jean of Bertrand; son, Dick Brand and his wife, Margaruite of Loomis, Nebraska; daughter, Peggy Teghtmeyer and her husband, Garry of Scottsbluff, Nebraska; three grandchildren: Scott Brand of Connecticut, Stacy Brand of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Anna Teghtmeyer of Scottsbluff; three step-grandchildren: Tracy Kimberly and her husband, Brad of Holdrege, Crystal Herron and her husband, Todd of Rock Port, Missouri, and JaWayne Douglass of Grand Island, Nebraska; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters: Esther Hall of Bertrand and Fern Wells of Cozad, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Interment was in the Immanuel Cemetery, Bertrand, Nebraska with military honors conducted by the Bertrand Veterans Organization in conjunction with the United States Army National Guards Military Honors Team.
