Julia was the second wife of John Halbedel, 1842-1899, a native of Switzerland. After his service in the Civil War with the 55th Regiment, Ohio Infantry, he married, had a daughter, and was living in Illinois when his wife Anna Mary Martin Halbedel died abt. 1868 in Clark County, Illinois. With his young daughter Anna Lena (or Lena Anna) he moved to Clay County, Kansas about 1874.

Julia Ann Anthony married John Halbedel October 26, 1874, Bedford, Taylor County, Iowa. They had four children together: Louise, (September 13, 1877-December 20, 1878); Lucinda (1879-1969); William A (1882-1918); and Charles Augusta (1889-1983).
