William Carl "Jack" Niewohner, of Norfolk, NE., died Wenesday, February 6, 2013 at Stanton Health Center, Stanton, NE. Jack was born January 22, 1916 to Carl and Bertha (Langler) Niewohner at Pischelville, NE.

Jack was baptized at Monowi, Nebraska in 1916 and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Norfolk in 1930. Jack attended St. Paul's Parochial School and Norfolk High School.

On April 7, 1942 Jack entered the United States Navy and served as an airplane mechanic during World War II until his honorable discharge on September 18, 1945. He returned home to Norfolk and started Norfolk Truck and Equipment which he ran until his retirement in 1981. On July 3, 1949 Jack married Mattie Hazel Jensen at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk. To this union 4 children were born.

Jack was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, where he served as a Trustee, an Elder and served on the Building Committee also. He was Past President of the Norfolk Lions Club, served on the Lutheran Hospital Association, The Northeast Community College Advisory Board, was Past President of the Bel-Air Homeowners Association, and was a member of the Norfolk Car and Truck Dealers. Jack also delivered Meals on wheels.

Jack is survived by: wife, Mattie H. Newhohner; children, Tom and Pat Niewohner of Wynstone, SD, Nancy and Bill Walz of Ashland, OR, Peggy Niewohner of Norfolk, Connie and Ken Johnson of Watertown, SD, 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by: parents and 8 siblings.

Burial was in The New Lutheran Cemetery, Norfolk, Nebraska. Military Rites will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard, American Legion Post 16 and VFW Post 1644.
