Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was a carpenter and married father of three residing in Union County, New Jersey when he was mustered in as a Private in Company A, 2nd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on May 17, 1861. Sometime after the Battle of Gettysburg he was taken prisoner by the Confederate forces. There he lingered until he died on May 6, 1864.

He was the older brother of Lieutenant Colonel Virgil Broderick of the 1st New Jersey Volunteer Cavalry.
