The New Iberian (MO) – May 3, 1979:

Mrs. Dorothy A. Meltabarger, 73, of 601 b Jackson St., a former resident of Meta, died Sunday at a Columbia hospital. A native of Maries County, Mrs. Meltabarger was born Feb. 17, 1906, a daughter of William and Eva Barnhart Champlian.

On June 12, 1926, at Meta, she was married to John B. Meltabarger, who died March 10, 1970. Mrs. Meltabarger spent most of her life in the Meta or Henley areas. She had resided in Jefferson City for the past nine months.

Survivors include: Two sons, William A. Meltabarger, Bridgeton, and John B. Meltabarger, LeMay; two daughters, Mrs. Edris Horn and Mrs. Iris Wicker, both of Jefferson City. Five brothers, John Champlian and Leonard Champlian, both of Meta, Harold Champlian, Villa Ridge, Roe Champlian, Glencoe, and Joe Champlian, Jefferson City; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Prater, Meta, Mrs. Mary Schrimpf, Hardy, Ark., and Mrs. Geneva Crane, Rolla; her mother, Mrs. Eva B. Champlian, Jefferson City; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at the Stevinson Funeral Home, Meta, with the Rev. Earl Jones officiating. Burial was in the Meta Southside Cemetery.
