Gabrielita, a resident of Chimayó, passed away surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband Anastacio R. Ortega; son Roger Ortega; granddaughter JoAnn Ortega; grandson Michael Ortega; parents José Simón and Beatrice Vigil; in-laws Rumaldo and Rosarito Ortega; brothers: Elias, Tomás, Damacio, Liborio and Emiterio Vigil; sisters: Eremita and Leonardita Vigil; brothers-in-law: Juan M. Ortega, Felix Ortega, Ben Rivera and Marcos Vigil; sisters-in-law: Martína and María Vigil and Trinidad and Apolonia Ortega.

Gabrielita was survived by her sons: Merejildo Ortega (wife Elma), Arturo Ortega (wife Clara) and Leo Ortega (companion Betty Romero) all of Chimayó, Tom Ortega (wife Helen), and Harold Ortega (wife Linda) of Albuquerque; daughter Grace Trujillo (husband Eddie) of Española; grandchildren: Richard Ortega (wife Bobbie), Nila Montoya (husband Ray), Orlinie Velasquez (husband Sammy), Jennie Vigil (husband Billy), Peggy Vargas (husband Alfonso), Debbie Ortega, Jerry Ortega (wife LaVerne), Jennifer Gutierrez (husband Frank), Sharon Trujillo (husband Craig), Henrietta Hughes (husband Gary), Nadine Caputo (husband Joe), Nicole Ortega (husband Jason Rumley), Renee Ortega Neff (husband Kevin), Bryan Ortega (wife Monica), Eddie Trujillo (companion Bernadette Gonzáles), and Luke Trujillo (wife Angela); sister Celina Rivera; sister-in-law Amelia Vigil; 38 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Gabrielita was a fine example and a good Christian. She cared about everyone and taught her family respect, love and to believe in yourself; she always put everybody else first. Her daughters-in-law and sons-in-law were treated like her own children. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and special friend who loved everyone.

Public visitation and Rosary were on 1 February 2013 in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian burial was on 2 February 2013 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayó. Burial followed in the Potrero Catholic Cemetery in Chimayó. Pallbearers: Jason Rumley, Bryan Ortega, Debbie Ortega, Ricky Ortega, Luke Trujillo and Jerry Ortega.
