Mr. Frederick, born in Alabama, his family moved to Corsicana, TX when he was about four. He was named Peter Nick, he later changed it to Perry Thomas. His Father re-married and pete left home when he was twelve. He came to the Panhandle area when he was fourteen, working on various ranches. He was wagon-boss on the LIT Ranch, Sheriff at Tascosa, TX 1900-1902. He helped Sam Killen survey Dalhart, TX townsight. He went into the coal draying business and later into the livery stable business. He was elected County Commissioner in 1913, initiated Highway 5, "Misery Trail" was conquered. He and J.N. Cole operated a service station and a Buick agency for 20 years.
