Colonel Richard E. Tooke, USAF (Ret), 79, of Hot Springs, "slipped the surly bonds of Earth…and touched the face of God" on January 27, 2013. Dick was born January 3, 1934 in Rochelle, Louisiana but grew up in Monroe, Louisiana. He graduated from LSU in 1956 with a degree in Geology. While attending college, he was a member of ROTC and upon graduation he received his commission into the United State Air Force. He was selected to attend flight school and upon completion he became a command pilot of refueling tanker airplanes, completing over 6500 hours of flight time, some in the KC-97 but most in the KC-135. Strategic Air Command was his home away from home for over 30 years.
Upon retirement, Dick moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas. He found a niche in the real estate business with Keahey Realty but found his second career for the last 25 years at Oaklawn Race Track as a pari-mutuel teller. He enjoyed interacting with his coworkers and clients. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his buddies at the Hot Springs Country Club. He was a past President of the Lions Club and recently was inducted into the Hot Springs Chapter as a Lifetime member. In addition, he was a member of the Air Force Association, the Military Officers Association, and the Daedalians. His true joy was spending time at his Lake Hamilton home with his wife Sandy and their six dachshunds.

Dick is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sandra (Huston) Tooke, and their four children, their spouses, and 4 grandchildren: Debra Tooke Crowell, CAPT, USN, (Mark C. Crowell, CDR, USN, lan and Quinlan), Karen Tooke Riechel (Jay); Susan Tooke Dombek (Eric, Katherine and Allison) and Samuel W. Tooke (Jodine K. Tooke, COL, USAF).

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Paula Montgomery Tooke, and his siblings, James W. Tooke (La Luz, NM) and Sandra Funderburk (Stonewall, LA).

After cremation, a private family memorial service will be held.

In remembrance of Dick and in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Garland County Veterans Memorial, P.O. Box 3955, Hot Springs, AR 71914.
