Lydia Aichele, 94, formerly of Milton-Freewater, died Nov. 23, 1996 at the Valley Vista Nursing Home in The Dalles, Or. Funeral services were held at the Munselle-Rhodes Funeral Home. Concluding services and interment followed at the Mountain Hope Cemetery in College Place.
Lydia was born in a sod house near McClusky, ND to Frederich and Margareta Hahn Buchmiller. She grew up and attended a one-room school in McClusky. In 1920, she moved to Milton with her family. On March 29, 1926, she married Benjamin Aichele in Walla Walla. The couple made their home in the Fruitvale District and raised three children there. In 1949, they moved to Milton-Freewater, residing there until 1985 when she moved to the Dalles, where she made her home. She was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and a life-long believer. She loved music, especially her violin, designed and sewed clothing for her family, enjoyed homemaking, growing flowers, and had a number of hobbies, including rug making, lace making, and button collecting.

After Ben's death, Lydia moved to the Dalles to be near her daughter, Jean.
