Murit Dean Aichele, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went to his rest from this world Jan. 17, 2018 at age 89.

He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, camping and hiking all his life. He especially enjoyed archery winning dozens of trophies and worked with young people in the field.

He started his career early at age 13 working for the Milton Nursery where he became well known for his ability at budding. He graduated from MAC HI in Milton-Freewater and from Washington State University (Pullman).

After his military service he worked for the Washington State Department of Agriculture for 35 years, specializing in fruit tree virus diseases and was involved in starting the orchard virus free program. He received numerous awards for his accomplishments including the State Directors Award for outstanding performance from the WSDA and the Pioneer Award for enduring contributions to the green industry by the Washington State Nursery & Landscape Association. He authored and co-authored numerous scientific articles published in the INTERNATIONAL Society for HORTICULTURAL SCIENCE, INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON FRUIT TREE VIRUS DISEASES, Agricultural Research Service of the United States Dept. of Agriculture, among others. He was also listed in the AMERICAN MEN & WOMEN OF SCIENCE 22nd Edition. As a private consultant into his mid 70's, he wrote patents for several popular fruit varieties.

His biggest joy in life was his family, especially his grandsons with whom he built a small log cabin using logs from their own land and his great-grandchildren who always brought a great smile to his face to his very last days.

Private family burial was held at Mt/ Hope Cemetery (College Place, WA).
