Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Shepherd were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Sutphen funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Chas. Horejs. The pallbearers were Harold Lewis, Clair Cork, Elias Lewis, Chas. Shepherd, Ed Wagaman and Fred Higgins, and those in charge of the flowers were Mrs. A. J. Devine and Mrs. Marjorie Edwards. The singing was by Mrs. Grace Nordyke and Mrs. Maude Scott. Internment was in the Villisca cemetery. Mrs. Shepherd died Wednesday, July 3, 1946 at her home northeast of Villisca.

Emma Loretta Clayton was born July 14, 1860, in South Bend, Ind., and was 85 years old at her death. She was married in Red Oak, Ia., on May 29, 1877, to Louis T. Shepherd, and to that union were born seven children. Mr. Shepherd preceded his wife in death Jan 1, 1936. Surviving Mrs. Shepherd are two sons, Harry of Villisca and Clifford of Gardena, Calif., three daughters , Mrs. W. H. Wood of Gardena and Mrs. Roy Bryson and Miss Lena Shepherd of Villisca. One son Charlie died in infancy and another son, Jay Frank, died in 1943. Mrs. Shepherd leaves also two sisters, Ella Luce of Louisville Ky., and Sarah Moody of Los Angeles, Calif., six grandchildren and one great grand child .
