Mary Ann Ritter was born April 18, 1842, near South Bend, Ind. Her death occurred only eighteen days before her ninetieth birthday anniversary. She was married June 20, 1861, to Benjamin Clayton at Lakeville, Ind., and came with him to this vicinity In 1871. They were the parents of five children. Two sons died in infancy, and the three daughters who survive are Mrs. Lewis Shepherd of north of Villisca, Mrs. John Luce of Mt. Ayr, Iowa, and Mrs. Burdette Moody of Los Angeles, Calif. Mrs. Clayton leaves also eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She united with the Presbyterian church of Villisca.
