He was retired from Plus Mark Inc.
Mr. Buckner was an avid raccoon hunter.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged.
Those close to him knew Mr. Buckner as a devoted husband, brother, uncle, and friend.
He and his wife of 44 years, Leula, had no children but the family said that they greatly impacted the lives of their nieces and nephews.
They also said that he will be sadly missed because of his willingness to "be there" in any time of need.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four sisters and two brothers-in-law: Elizabeth and I.J. Shelton of DeKalb, Ill., Ada and David Barnes of Greeneville, Susie Brown of Marshall, N.C., and Nancy Harris of Asheville, N.C.; five sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law: Dollie Buckner of Asheville, Marlene and Phillip Waddell of Greeneville, and Ruth and Louis Keller, Naomi and Cecil Copeland, and Mary Jo Wicker, all of Michigan; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law: Edward Crowe of Asheville, Gene and Alice Taylor of Cocke County, and Marvin and Louise Taylor, and Minnis and Betty Taylor, all of Michigan; and his nieces and nephews, who were all special to him, the family said.
He was a son of the late Nelson and Loduskey Buckner and was preceded in death by three sisters: Belle Waddell, Tokie Crowe, and Martha Henderson; and a brother: Frank Buckner.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 this evening at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning in the funeral home chapel with interment in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens. Marvin Taylor, pastor, will officiate.
Active pallbearers will be Phil Waddell, Joe Hensley, Tony Nease, Paul Laughlin, Steve Taylor, Calvin Brown, Kenneth Brown, and Jack Crowe.
