John Edgar Barre, retired contractor, painter, and decorator, died at his home Feb. 7 at 11:10 p.m. He was a native of Richland County where he was born July 29, 1865, a son of Joseph and Margaret Messerly Barre, and was aged 82 years, 6 months, and 8 days. He was married to Annetta Susanah Curtis Sept. 10, 1890, at Bellmont.
Surviving are four children, Charles Albert Barre of Jonesboro, Ill., Zella Frances Ward of Beaumont, Tex., Curtis Barre of Whiting, Ind., and Genevieve Hoskinson of Arlington, Va. There are six grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his wife; three brothers, Sanford, Alexander, and Eugene; and one sister, Lizzie.
He was a member of the Methodist Church of Mount Carmel, the I.O.O.F. Lodge, and Modern Woodmen of America. Mr. Barre had resided here for 33 years.
Mr. Barre was taken to the Roy D. Short Company Funeral Home where services will be held in the Memorial Chapel Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Rev. Edwin H. Grant officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.
