Lincoln Bancroft (Illinois State Representative, Rebublican, Greenup) was born in Johnstown,Cumberland County,Illinois; graduated from Greenup schools then studied law. Was with the law office of W.H. McDonald for seven years. He served one term as Mayor of Greenup, IL. Was instrumential in getting the Carnegie Library in Greenup, making a trip to Pittsburg to pick up the funds. He served as State Representative in the House from 1914 to 1928 (also as Speaker) earning the title of Mr. Republician. Upon retirement he entered the insurance business until his death in 1942 when he was killed in a single car accident south of Effingham, Illinois.

He m. Birdie Gochenour 20 Oct 1903, they had three children; Harold, Lucile and Glen Edward.
