Russell married Rosa Ellen "Rosie" Diehl, 27 May 1910, in Miami, OH. The had 2 children:

-Ralph Edward Lidie (1916-1989)
-Omar Lawrence Lidie (1918-1992)

Russell spent his youth in Thurmont, MD, where he appears living with his family on the 1900 census. By 1910 the family had relocated to Miami, OH, where Russell was married and working as a paper mill laborer. Russell and Rosa moved back to Thurmont, MD before their first son was born in 1916 and were found living there in 1920 where he worked as a plumber for the railroad. By 1930 they had moved back to Miami, OH and Russell again worked in the paper mill industry. The family remained in Ohio for the rest of their lives.

Obituary:

Russell E. Lidie, 71, son of the late Harry E. and Rosa Fitz Lidie, formerly of Thurmont, die Tuesday at his home in Dayton, OH. He had been employed here by the Western Maryland Railway maintenance department before moving to Ohio about 15 years ago. Survivors, in addition to his widow, Rosa E. Diehl Lidie include: Two sons, Ralph of Dayton and Omar of Redwood, NY; on brother Howard, of Dayton; two sisters, Mrs. Warren Richards and Mrs. William Haught, both of Dayton, and 10 grand-children. Friends may call at the Creager funeral home Friday evening. Service will be held at the funeral home Saturday at 1pm. Interment will be in the United Brethren cemetery. Rev. Arthur Rice will officiate.
