Met his wife Anna Alma Susanne Maul while serving in Germany during WWII. She was a German citizen and on her own wandering the country at the end of the war, only 19 years old and in need of help. They fell in love and were married in Stuttgart, Germany. Omar arranged to fly her to the USA in 1948. Their first child was born in Germany in 1947.
