Obituary:

Business Leader Passes

F. Ellett Atwood, veteran Caro lumber dealer and civic leader, died at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw on November 6 [1971].

Funeral services for Mr. Atwood were held at 3 pm on Tuesday at the Huston Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ben Whaley officiating. Burial was made in the Caro Cemetery.

Mr. Atwood was born on July 24, 1898 at Caro and lived here all of his life. He made his home at 309 Madison Street in Caro.

He was the owner of the Caro Lumber Yard until the time of his death and a member of the Caro United Methodist Church. He served his country during World War I and was a member of the Caro American Legion and its unique Last Man’s Club.

He was also active as a member of Mt. Moriah No. 226 Lodge in Caro.

For many years Mr. Atwood served as a member of the Board of Directors of State Savings Bank of Caro. He also was a member of the Board of Directors of the Tuscola County Fair Association and for many years served as the superintendent of speed for the fair’s harness races.

He married Fern Bliss on February 11, 1925. She survives him as does a brother Theron of Bridgman, Michigan, several nieces and nephews.
