He married Susan Miller in 1844 and from this union bore 11 Children.
He became a Christina in 1848 and was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Healdsburg which was organized in 1854. He helped build 2 houses of worship for that church. The first was built on the South End of Center Street where Mrs. Cochran's house now stands which was followed by the present one on Fitch street. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 48 years
