Death claimed one of this areas most prominent, pioneer residents early Wednesday evening when Oscar Taylor Glasscock, 74 years old, passed away at his home, 413 South Austin Street.
A retired farmer, Mr. Glasscock had been ill since January 22, 1953, when he suffered a stroke. He died at 6:47 PM.
Funeral services have been set for 3 o'clock Friday afternoon in the First Methodist Church. Rev. Frank Beauchamp, pastor, will officiate, assisted by Rev. Earl Nowlin, Carlsbad, N.M., and Rev. James O. Todd, pastor of the local First Baptist Church.
Active pallbearers will be: J. Rabo, Ewell Hardy, Charles Cadenhead, Glenn Lile, Wesley Leake and V.J. Castka.
Named as honorary bearers are: O.B. Harvey, Sr., H.E. Pendleton, J.R. Benson, T.E. Burkhalter, H.B. Hill, H.T. Fields, L.E. Clay, E.K. Capterton, Cecil Reavis, Howard Weatherby, L.S. Griffin, Earl Hamill, A.P. Bumpers and Glenn Cantrell.
The I.O.O.F. will be in charge of graveside rites.
Clay Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
M. Glasscock was born October 13, 1880, in New Litchfield, Ky. He moved from Kentucky to Graham, Texas, in 1893, and came to Wheeler County in June of 1907. He had made his home in Shamrock since he retired from farming in 1928.
He was married to Miss Rena Josephine Driver on September 30, 1903, Gooseneck, Texas. The couple observed their golden wedding anniversary last year.
Mr. Glasscock united with the Methodist Church in his native state when he was five years old. He was serving as Sunday school superintendent at the time of his marriage. He served as assistant secretary of the church for 40 years and on the board of stewards for 53 years.
An active member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, he held all degrees the organization offers.
Survivors include: the widow, Mr. O.T. Glasscock, Shamrock; one son, John William Glasscock, Wellington; one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Mae (Jess) Clay, Pampa; three grandsons, Randall, San Antonio; Sgt. William Bryan Morgan, Fort Benning, GA; and James Glasscock, Wellington; one great-granddaughter, Mrs. Joan Campbell, Amarillo; and one great-granddaughter, Randye Ann Campbell, Amarillo.
Three sisters, Mrs. J.M. Nowlin, Mrs. O.M. Nowlin and Mrs. Harry Wood, all of Rocky, Okla; and a number of nieces and nephews.
One daughter, Mrs. Adelle Hugg, preceded her father in death on March 10, 1934.
