Son of the late O.T. and Rena Glasscock, John was born in Graham August 25, 1904. He died Saturday, January 21, 1978, in Shamrock General Hospital following an illness of several weeks.

The Glasscock family moved to Wheeler County from Graham in 1907 and in to Shamrock in 1928. John attended Shamrock Schools from which he graduated in 1924.

He was married to Miss Goldie Lovett, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. F.E. Lovett of Clovis, New Mexico on June 1, 1930. She preceded him in death on March 22, 1958. He married Katie Close, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A.Z. Hamilton of Elkwater, West Virginia on March 26, 1959, in Shamrock.

John was a member of Shamrocks First Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Sunday School Class. He joined the church when he was nine years old and had served on the Board of Stewards at different times and began a new term this year. He also served his church as usher for many years.

He was a 32nd degree Mason, both Scottish and York Rites. He was a Past Master of the Wellington Masonic Lodge and he was a past Master of the Lodge 929, and a member of the Shamrock Scottish Rite Club. He was a member of Shamrock Chapter 384, Order of Eastern Star, and a Past Patron of both Shamrock and Wellington Chapters of OES. He had served on State and District Committees of the Grand Lodge of Texas, OES, and as Assisting Grant Sentinel of the Grand Chapter of Texas OES.

Many area young men will remember him as their Scoutmaster in the 1940's. He also served as a district officer in the Boy Scouts of America.

A long time member of Shamrock Rotary Club, he was a past president and had served the club the past six years as secretary. Serving his third term as a member of Shamrock City Council, he had been Mayor Pro-tem for two years. John helped organize Shamrocks' Chamber of Commerce, which organization he had served as president and as a member of the board of directors during the past eight years. Mr. Glascock had been a prominent farmer and rancher in Wheeler County until close to the end of 1977, when ill health began to limit his activities.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katie Glasscock of the home; a son, Dr. James Glasscock of Garland; two grandchildren; John Randall Glasscock and Lee Ann Glasscock, both of Garland; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Mae Clay of Pampa; two stepsons: State Representative Bob Close of Perryton and Bryan Close of Shamrock; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Bernice Collingsworth of Shamrock and 11 step-grandchildren.
