William H Doonan
William H. Doonan whose death on July 17 has already been reported in this paper, was a long time resident of Lancaster, coming here in 1865 to conduct the farm where he died 55 years later. He was born in St. Celester (St. Sylvestre), PQ July 27, 1834 and at the age of 16 left home and went to Maine. In 1856 he got the gold craze and went to California and worked six years in the gold mines. He then went to Minnesota where he farmed until he came to Lancaster and settled down on the old farm.
Mr. Doonan always loved his home. He was a man of quiet habits and found great pleasure in helping others. He was one of a family of ten children, a sister in Sherbrooke and another in Wisconsin surviving, together with a son Walter and a daughter, Mrs. Arthur L Simonds, both of Lancaster.
