Wellston resident Ellen Coweta Barnes died Saturday at her residence. She was 81.

Mrs. Barnes was born Oct. 19, 1915, in Wellston, to Roy Daniel Swinford and Agnes Anna Green Swinford.

She married William H. "Bill" Barnes in Oklahoma City on Oct. 10, 1936.

She lived in Wellston since 1985. She lived in the Oklahoma City area during her active years, where she worked as an accountant for Allied Foods.

Mrs. Barnes was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wellston. She was a member of the Nicoma Park Order of Eastern Star, where she was past matron. She was past Grand Adah of the State of Oklahoma Order of the Eastern Star in 1974, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, William Ralph and Ellen K. Barnes of Oklahoma City; her grandchildren and their wives, Ralph Jr. and Sherry Barnes of Oklahoma City and Bob and Leslie Barnes of Dallas, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Christy, Bill, Mackenzie and Kelsey; one brother and his wife, Harold and Bessie Swinford of Oklahoma City; one sister, Dora A. Brewer of McLoud; nieces and nephews, and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, in December of 1992, and her parents.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Wellston with the Rev. Todd Fisher officiating. Burial will be at Wellston Cemetery under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Home in Chandler.
