H. Eugene Winkler, 82, of Lakes James, Angola, Indiana, and formerly of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away January 11, 2013 at his residence. Mr. Winkler was born September 12, 1930, at home, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of Henry A. and Freda A. (Vegeler) Winkler. They preceded him in death.

Mr. Winkler married Dorothea "Dottie" M. Huemmrich on June 5, 1954 in Pennsylvania. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2007.

He attended Zion Lutheran School and graduated from South Side High School in Fort Wayne, and Tri State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from Northern Indiana Public Service Company as General Plant Superintendent.

Mr. Winkler was caretaker for the Clear Lake Lutheran Cemetery for many years, and a U.S. Air Force veteran.

He lived at Lake James for over 40 years, and was a member of Clear Lake Lutheran Church, Fremont, Indiana, and an associate member of the Lake James Lutheran Chapel. He was a member of the Fremont Moose Lodge, Fremont American Legion Cassel Post #257, Angola Elks Lodge and the Angola V.F.W.

Suriving are: four daughters, Christina Winkler and friend Carl E. Miller, Fort Wayne, Gretchen Woods, Tacoma, Wash., Katherine and Bruce Pickering, Carmel, Ind., and Sandra and Richard Hensley, Chicago, Ill.; a son, Henry and Jill Winkler, Lakes James, Angola; and four grandchildren, Clara Pickering, Alyson Pickering, Elyse Pickering and Henry Eugene (Tripp) Winkler, III.

Preceding him in death were: his wife Dorothea "Dottie" Windler; his parents, Henry A. and Freda A. (Vegeler) Winkler; a granddaughter, Fisher Hensley; three sisters, Minna "Marie" Aston, Lillian Walker, and Dorothy Ahlesmeyer; and two brothers, George R. Winkler and Pete Winkler.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Revs. Tim Miller and Wayne Berkesch officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Lutheran Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana, with military committal services conducted by members of the Fremont American Legion.

Memorials are to the Lake James Lutheran Chapel or Clear Lake Lutheran Church.
