It is a picture of Doctor Floyd "Dock" Dotson ( 1852 -1941) and his wife Thursa Mae Cook Dotson (1845-1927) and the standing is their son Dock Oliver Dotson (1887-1973). I have one of the original pictures. Please correct the label. Thank you."
Doctor was a name, not a profession. Doctor Floyd married Mary Ann "Poly Dawn" Reno/ Raincrow on November 11, 1830, in Roane Co, TN. She was the sister of Celia Reno/Raincrow who married Doctor Floyd's brother, Archibald.
Mary and Celia are believed to be full blood Cherokee Indians, daughters of Chief Joseph Raincrow. Some say they went by the last name of Reno because they lost their parents and were raised by Amos Reno.
Doctor Floyd and Mary left Tennessee sometime before 1840. He was listed on tax lists of Madison County as a non-land owner in 1837, 1838, and 1839. They had at least 13 children: Nancy, Rhoda, Hannah, Susan Jane, Noah, Melissa Emmaline, William Squire, Matilda Catherine, Lettia, Silas Greenberry, Amanda, and Doctor Floyd Dotson, Jr.
Doctor Floyd died sometime before 1880. Mary died on January 20, 1904, in Madison Co, AR. Both are buried in Lower Wharton Creek Cemetery.
