George was born near Hillsboro, Loudoun County, VA in 1771 to 1772. His presumed grandparents were David and Ann Williams, who joined the Fairfax MM Quakers in 1762, and who first appeared on the new Loudoun Co, VA tax lists in 1759. Their older son, William Williams, thought to be George's father, died c1780. His mother's name appears to have been Elizabeth based on Loudoun tax lists, and may have been Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Nixon, daughter of George Nixon, although was unlisted on 1797 Will of George Nixon.

David Williams held a "Gap Meeting" in his Hillsboro home starting in 1770 until his death in Mar-Apr 1789. George appeared to be an heir of David Williams, first recorded on tax lists next to David's widow Anne Williams 1789 thru 1793, except for 1792, when George lived next to George Nixon and/or his aunt Martha Williams Humphrey. George may have lived on the Williams' farm after his father died c1780.

George Williams married Nancy Newhouse, before David Williams' death, c1788, probably at Broad Run Baptist Church in New Baltimore, Fauquier Co, VA where Nancy's parents were members until 1788. Nancy Newhouse's extended Newhouse and Van Pelt families lived in Loudoun County at that time.

By 1796, George and Nancy lived in Wythe Co, VA near his Newhouse in-law family, and by 1798 moved to neighboring Washington Co, VA, where he resided north of Abingdon along the Poor Valley near Brumley Creek through 1810 on land that George purchased in 1805, the previous title holder was his father-in-law, Isaac Newhouse. Most of George and Nancy's children were born in Washington County, VA. George's presumed grandmother Anne Williams died in Hillsboro in 1806.

In 1810-1811, George and Nancy ventured 'Out West' to southern Indiana Territory, crossing the Cumberland Gap into Kentucky then northwards across the Ohio River into Franklin County, IN. George was listed in the first 1811 tax records of Franklin Co, Indiana.

During War of 1812, George served as a private in the Indiana 7th Regiment Militia under Capt Elliott Herndon, serving in same company with brothers-in-law Samuel Newhouse and James Newhouse.

In late 1820, George moved his family from Union Twp, Franklin (now Union) Co, IN to the small village of Columbia in Fayette Co, IN, where he had purchased land from his brother-in-law Samuel Newhouse in Aug 1820, and where he lived until his death in 1844.

After George died, c1846 Nancy moved with her son John to Fulton County, Illinois, where she lived together at the farm of her son Isaac Williams near Troy, Union Twp until her death in Oct 1847.

George is referenced in a 1914 bio sketch of his son-in-law Noah Sandifur from The History of Miami Co. Indiana:

"In September 1821, he (Noah Sandifur) was married in Fayette county, Indiana, to Miss Mary Williams, a native of Virginia and a daughter of George and Nancy (Newhouse) Williams. Mr. Williams was also a pioneer farmer of Franklin county, whence he came probably as early as 1820, clearing a tract of land and establishing a comfortable home for his children, who were, as far as is known, Mary, John, Isaac, Sarah and James, a daughter who married a Mr. Wilson, and another who married a Mr. Walker."

Fayette County Probate Court, 29 Nov 1844:
"George Williams' Estate.
Be it remembered that on the twenty ninth day of November in the year of Our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty four, then comes to the Clerk's office of the Fayette County Probate Court, Jesse Thomas and files therein the following Renunciation in this behalf, to-wit (here insert) which said Renunciation being accepted by the Clerk, therefore said Jesse Thomas files his petition in this behalf jurying the appointment of Administrator of said Estate"

Jesse Thomas was administrator of George's estate from Nov 1844 until Feb 1848, and during this time bought and sold George's 80 acres of land located just north of Columbia, and settled George's estate with his heirs.

George is thought to be buried in Columbia Cemetery, active by 1844 and located within one mile of his farm. However, it is possible that George had a family plot nearby in Franklin or Union County, where George resided from 1811-1820, and may be buried with his children who died before George.

George and Nancy had the following children:
*George Williams Jr c1789-c1823, m. Agness Gobble, m. Elizabeth Telford
*Catherine Williams, c1794 – 1815; m. Wm Wilson
*? Margaret Williams, c1796 – unk; m. James Russell Jr
