Ray, age 87, died at his residence in LaHarpe. He was the twin son of Oliver and Anna (Beecher) Aikins. He served in the US Navy during World War II and was awarded the Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with two stars, and Philippine Victory Bar. He married Zana Neagle on June 29, 1945, in Girard but later divorced. He married Helen Christy on February 5, 1982, in Miami, Oklahoma. Survivors include his children, Steve Aikins, Linda Heer, Rita Berntsen, Richard Aikins, Scott Aikins, and Nancy Axtell, 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, and his brother, Dean Aikins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Roy Aikins, his siblings, Clarence Aikins, Carl Aikins, Forrest Aikins, Harry Aikins, and Babe Thompson, his grandson, Steve Aikins Jr. Service were held at Iola Baptist Temple. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery in rural Stark.
