Funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Denton Community United Methodist Church. Visitation will take place at the church 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Daryl was born in Spokane, Wash. When he was a few months old, he returned with his parents to the family home northeast of Denton. Daryl attended school all the way through high school graduation in Denton. Later, he attended Montana State University for a short period. Daryl married Ora Smail in 1948. When his father died in 1949, he took over the farm. Since 1999, Daryl and Ora have enjoyed wintering in Yuma, Ariz.
Daryl was Worthy Grand Patron of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 72 and member of the Western Star Lodge No. 104. He served on the boards of the PCA, Northwest Bank, Denton School and Montana Tax Payer Association in Helena. He also received an award for Outstanding Young Farmer. Daryl really enjoyed watching high school and college sports and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Daryl always enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was also able to enjoy a day this past summer in the harvest field with his two boys again.
Daryl will be greatly missed.
Daryl is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ora; sons, Bill (Tracy) of Spokane, Wash., and Jerry (Fran) of Denton; grandsons, Bryan of Williston, N.D., and Colin of Denton; granddaughter, Shannon (Rich) McGillis of Cincinnati, Ohio; seven great-grandsons; brother, Wallace (Jerry Ann) Ayers of Lewistown; and sister, Elaine (Leroy) Musick of Lewistown.
Daryl is preceded in death by his parents; a brother; and a son.
