He was affectionately known to friends and family as "Paw." He was a retired industrial painter and member of Local 728, having worked throughout the Baton Rouge area and for many years at BASF Wyandotte. A longtime resident of Addis and a native of Brusly, he died at 2:20 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Baton Rouge. He was 87, born March 16, 1922. Visiting was at Wilbert Funeral Home in Plaquemine Tuesday, Jan. 12, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting will continue at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Hall in Brusly on Wednesday, Jan. 13, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Matthew Dupré, celebrant. Interment in church cemetery. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Donna Chustz Kirkland and Allen Joseph Kirkland; three grandchildren, Dustin Charles Kirkland and wife Kimberly Gros Kirkland, Lindsy Kirkland Cordell and husband Michael Cordell, and Leigh Ann Kirkland deBarros and husband Jeremy deBarros; and three great-grandchildren, Gabriel Michael Cordell, Lucas Allen Cordell and Price Alan deBarros. Preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Sharon Chustz; parents, Daily Joseph and Cornelia LeJeune Chustz; sister, Donna Chustz; and brothers, Doyle, Lynn, Malcolm, Stuart, Lloyd "Cotton" and Leon Chustz. He was a selfless man who took pleasure in the simple things in life, such as riding his tractor and gardening at Choctaw. He was also a loving man who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and special thanks to Dr. Terry Rehn and Dr. David Fontenot. Thanks also to his friends who treated him like family and visited him regularly. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
