The following was copied from Civil War records in the National Archives, Washington, DC:
William A. Craft enlisted as a Private, Mar 4, 1862 at Elberton, GA . He joined the 15th Georgia Regiment, Company F. He was listed on the Company Muster Roll as "...absent without leave..." for the period August 31 through December 31, 1863. He was also listed as "...a prisoner of war..." surrendered by General Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia, on April 9, 1865.
