Dr. Edwin Rose Of Mount Alto
Dr. Edwin J. Rose, 73, retired manager of Mount Alto Veterans Hospital who spent 41 years in Government service, died Wednesday night at his home, 4501 Cortland Rd., Chevy Chase, apparently of a heart attack.
Dr. Rose retired from his Mount Also post in 1957. A specialist in orthopedic surgery, he had previously managed veterans hospitals in three other cities and had been an executive in the Veterans Administration central office.
Born in Cadmus, Gallia Co., Ohio, he received his medical degree from Ohio State University in 1917 and entered the Medical Corps, in which he served three years.
After the Veterans Administration was established in 1930, he became chief of the General Hospital Division here.
During World War II, Dr. Rose was a colonel in the Medical Corps, then returned to the VA as Acting Chief of Surgery in the Department of Medicine and Surgery.
In 1947, he was appointed manager of the veterans hospital in Minneapolis and three years later, became Assistant Director of Hospital Operations Service. He assumed his Mount Alto post in 1953.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth L. at the home and, a son, Dr. Harold D. of Milwaukee.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday from the S. Hines Funeral Home, 2901 14th St. NW, with burial in Arlington Cemetery.
