Joseph Watts was a farmer, Whig in politics and later a Republican, an active member of the United Brethren Church.

1850 US Census, Jackson Township, Franklin County, OH, lists Joseph Watts, age 38, born in PA, a farmer; his wife, Lucinda, age 35, born in VA ; Elizabeth, age 16, Mary, age 12; Emily, age 11; Sarah, age 9; Martha, age 6; and Joseph, age 3. According to the census, Joseph was born in PA (?), not NY; Lucinda in VA; and all children in OH. This census also shows Adam Gantz residing near Jacob Brink and Joseph and Lucinda (Barbee) Watts. Their daughter, Nancy Gantz, subsequently married William Watts, Jr. Also William and Nancy Duff. There daughter, Mary Jane Duff, married

1860 US Census, Jackson Township, Franklin County, OH, shows Emily Watts, age 19, and Joseph F. Watts, age 14, residing with their brother-in-law and sister, Lewis and Elizabeth (Watts) Borror, after their parents. Joseph and Lucinda (Barbee) Watts, died in 1959 and 1957 respectively.
