GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. — Max Eugene Brownell Jr. "Brownie," 65, of 1158 Alpine Circle, Green Valley, Ariz., died Friday, Dec. 3 1999, in his home after a period of illness.

He was born Feb. 1, 1934, to Max E. and Alice L. (Mathewson) Brownell of New Berlin, N.Y.

Max attended South New Berlin School.

He married Bernice Margaret Wightman on Dec. 2, 1951.

Max lived in the upstate area of New Berlin and South Edmeston and was a supervisor at T.A.C.O. of Sherburne, N.Y., for 16 years then to Simmons Precision of Norwich, N.Y., for 15 years until his relocation, for health reasons, to Green Valley in 1993.

Max was an avid hunter, bowler and golfer.

Max is survived by his wife, Bernice M. Wightman Brownell of Green Valley, Ariz.; six children, Wayne Brownell, Nancy Coleman of New Berlin, N.Y., Terry Brownell of Edmeston, N.Y., Dale Brownell of New York City and Connie Holt and Donna Gulley of Green Valley, Ariz.; three sisters, Mildred Card of Lowville, N.Y., Beatrice Crowell of Atlanta, Ga., and Sharon "Penny" Brownell of New Berlin, N.Y.; and one brother, Clarence "Red" Brownell of New Berlin, N.Y. Max is also survived by 14 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one daughter, Debra A. Grant of New Berlin, N.Y., and a brother, Alfred Brownell of South New Berlin, N.Y.

A memorial service is to be planned in the spring when the interment of ashes is possible at Gazlay Cemetery, South Edmeston, N.Y.
