Nettie Myrtle Preston and Gilford Lynn Toler were married in Henry County, VA on April 02, 1928. They had a successful 40+ year marriage that produced a family of 10 healthy children and one child who died at childbirth. Gil was a truck driver with an impeccable safety record of over 15 years. He and Nettie worked as caretakers of their small family farm. Nettie was a homemaker in every sense of the word, from cooking, for which she won dozens of awards at local fairs to gardening to sewing to purchasing investment property, all while being route salesperson for Blair and Avon products. Their industrious spirits and great work ethic, founded on their Christian values allowed them to not only survive but thrive through the economic uncertainties of their time. Gilford Toler was a deacon of his church, Kings Street Weselyn Memorial Church for a number of years. He left behind a legacy for all of his children and grandchildren to follow.
