Late "Maple Sugar King's" Widow Is Dead, 73 Years Old

Mother of Five Children, with 11 Grandchildren, in Southern Somerset

HUSBAND DIED IN JUNE

SALISBURY, Oct. 3 -- Mrs. Caroline (Yoder) Livengood, aged 73, widow of Elijah Livengood, long famous in southern Somerset County as the "Maple Sugar King," died at 8:20 this morning at her home, located on a large farm about two and one-half miles from Salisbury. Mrs. Livengood succumbed to the infirmities of age. She was widely known and her death represents a passing about as notable as that of her husband. The latter, who was best known as "Elije" Livengood, passed away last June, so that the aged couple were not long separated in death. Mrs. Livengood was born July 24, 1855, in Elklick Township, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Yoder. She was married to Elijah Livengood October 17, 1872, the bridal couple occupying the home where they spent the rest of their lives and where Mrs. Livengood died today. There the following children were born to them: Henry, Joseph and Elizabeth, at home; Abraham, a local veterinarian, and Daniel, a druggist here. Surviving brothers and sisters of the deceased are Joseph Yoder, of Carlton, Neb.; Mrs. Cyrus Rodamer and Mrs. Barbara Engle, of Salisbury; Mrs. Tillie Sanger, of Modesto, Cal., and Emanuel Yoder, of this place. There are 11 grandchildren. Mrs. Livengood was a lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren. Her funeral will be held from her late residence Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock by the local Church of the Brethren pastor, with burial in the Odd Fellow's Cemetery at Salisbury. It is expected that a large cortege will follow Mrs. Livengood's remains to the grave.
