NOTE: The death date on his stone is incorrect as his estate settlement is recorded in Brown County records as occurring in 1863. I am unsure who made this home-made stone or what source was used. The 1874 date on the stone is erroneous.

He was the son of Samuel and Mary Ann (Watson) Fleener. His exact birth place in Sullivan Co., TN is unknown. He migrated to Indiana in 1823 and lived in the wilds of Brown Co. before it was a county. He was one of the first settlers in the area along with his brother Jacob Fleener and his wife Hannah Lair Fleener; it is thought that he lived with his brother Jacob until 1829 and possibly his brother Michael as well. Jacob is listed on the 1830 Census of Morgan Co. on page 245; however, it is believed that he actually lived just inside of what is now considered Brown County in northeastern Jackson Twp. According to Wikipedia there were only about 150 settlers in the county in 1830. Maybe 30 or 40 of these were in Jackson Twp.

Aaron married Mary Ann Weddle on Oct. 8, 1829 in Monroe Co. and moved to the western part of Brown Co. It is important to note that this area of Brown Co. was once part of Monroe Co. from 1828 until 1836. He is not listed on the 1830 Census but it is believed that he lived in the Possom Trot or Bear Creek area which is now Jackson Twp. The first land record found for him: 10/21/1834, Doc. #19998, Indiana, 2nd PM, Twp 010 Range 001E, SE1/4 SW1/4, Sec. #36, Brown Co. (in 1834 this was still Monroe Co.).

Mary Ann was the daughter of Thomas and Rosannah (Wallen) Weddle. Aaron and Mary were the parents of nine children: Samuel T., Mary Ellen Richardson, Lucinda Hendrickson, Sarah Weddle, James Addison "Add", Jacob H., John Martin Van Buren, Andrew Jackson and Rosannah Gilmore McClung.

Mary Ann died around 1845 or perhaps 1847. On July 3, 1848 Aaron married Frances G. Waggoner in Johnson Co. who was the daughter of Burgess Waggoner and Nancy Shipp. They were the parents of six children: Nancy Jane Weddle, Eliza Catherine Fishel, Simon C. (Calvin) (born 1852), Martha, Amanda C. and Samantha Richards. Aaron had a total of 15 children.

Margery Hanson's book Receipt for an Inheritance shows the following regarding Aaron's death and estate:

Page 14 or 144

"Aaron Fleenor died in March, 1863. The inventory of his estate, valued at $800.90, was made by John Richards and Jackson Fleenor, appraisers, and submitted to the Clerk of the Court, March 31, 1863. Samuel T. Fleenor was the administrator, Frances G. Fleener signed that she had received $300.90 worth of property as full payment of her dowry on March 30, 1863. The inventory shows the personal property - live stock, tools, household goods and supplies of all kinds - to be that of a substantial farmer."

This inventory and his will ( if available) will be added to this bio in the future. At any rate this all happened in 1863 not in 1874.

My Aunt Dora B. Merriman wrote a book entitled Jacob Fleener, June, 1996. Page 4 shows that Aaron's ..."home was located just north of Lemon Lake on Possom Trot Road where the winery is now located. About 1900 the then owners rebuilt the house - whether in same original style Compiler does not know; however, present owners of winery have improved and modernized the home."

"Aaron and his wife Mary are buried in a fenced-in wooded area across a field from the winery. Graves are marked with rocks, the original writing of which is barely noticeable now. The administrators of Aaron's estate, John Richards and Jackson Fleener, valued it at $800.90."
