She was the daughter of Thomas W. Weddle and Rosamond Wallen. Her mother's name has also been given as Rosannah Wallen but the stone says Rosamond. She married Aaron Fleener Oct. 8, 1829, Monroe Co., Indiana. She was the mother of nine children: Samuel, Mary Ellen Richardson, Lucinda Hendrickson, Sarah Weddle, James Addison "Add", Jacob H., John Martin Van Buren, Andrew Jackson and Rosannah Gilmore.

Her exact death date is unknown. She likely died around 1847 as Aaron remarried July 3, 1848 to Frances G. Waggoner. The only way she could have died Nov. 23, 1852 is if she and Aaron were divorced and I have seen no evidence of that. She is buried here per the research of a descendant, Esther Mink.

In recent years, extensive research and DNA testing has revealed a link to African slave immigrant and Virginia Colonist, John Punch. The name later became Bunch and is a core Melungeon family. His descendants later migrated to Grayson Co., VA and then to Hancock Co. and Hawkins Co., TN. So, Mary Ann was part Melungeon. Other Bunch descendants settled in Unionville.

Line of Descent

John Punch, b. 1615 Cameroon, d. 1661 York Co., VA, E1b1a y-DNA
John Bunch, b. 1635 Virginia, d. 1700 New Kent Co., VA & Mary
John Bunch, b. 1665, New Kent Co., VA, d. 1729 Henrico Co., VA & Temperance (-----) Bates
Agnes or Ann Bunch, b. 1690/92, VA & William Blevins
Mary Blevins, b. 1710, VA d. 1757 VA & Elisha Walling/Wallen
Joseph Wallen, 1735-1792 & Milly Jones
Rosamond Wallen, 1777-1850 & Thomas Weddle
Mary Weddle, 1808-1847

Contrary to what many trees show, Agnes or Ann was most likely born in Virginia and not in New Jersey. Furthermore, DNA matches to both the Wallens and Bunches are on particular chromosome segments which, along with the research, basically tie matching individuals back to John Punch.
