Mrs. M.J. Fleming whose death occurred Dec. 19, 1924, was born Jan. 27, 1848 at Columbia, Pa., and came with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh McDevitt to Shullsburg in 1860. They made their home on a farm in Seymour where on April 25th, 1876, she was united in marriage with Michael J. Fleming. In the spring of 1907 they moved to Shullsburg and on June 7, 1917, Mr. Fleming passed away.
Six children were born to this union, their first born, a daughter, passed away in infancy; Michael A. died in Jan. 1919 and Thomas E. died March 18, 1924.
Those who are left to mourn one of the kindest mothers are: John V. of Geddes, S. Dak., William J. of Canistota, S.Dak, and James of this city; also a number of grandchildren.
Her funeral took place from St. Matthew's church. Interment was made in the family lot in Seymour beside her loved ones gone before. Pick & Gad.
