Mrs. Eula Anderson Benson died Thursday, June 25, in Shamrock General Hospital
following an illness of several weeks. Born August 27, 1896 in Collingsworth County, Eula Anderson and J. R. Benson were married September 6, 1914, in Wellington. The couple moved to Shamrock in February 1924 from Wellington.

A member of a pioneer ranching family of Collingsworth County, MRS. BENSON WAS A MEMBER OF ONE OF THE FIRST GRADUATING CLASS OF WELLINGTON HIGH SCHOOL WITH THE CLASS OF 1914. Her grandfather and father platted the town of Wellington and surveyed a large portion of Collingsworth County.

Her father, John W. Anderson, was the first county clerk of this county. After
moving to a ranch in Hemphill County, he was elected tax assessor and collector
there. Mrs. Benson lived on ranches in Hemphill County and at Clarendon prior to moving to Shamrock in 1924, where she worked in the hardware and furniture business with her husband until their retirement.

She was a member of Shamrock's First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, the Philathea Sunday School Class, Thursday Literary Club, Priscilla Club, and was past worthy matron of Shamrock Chapter 294, Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Benson and her husband were workers with the Methodist Youth many years and she taught in the church school for primary and junior children.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Lyman G. Benson of Shamrock, one daughter, Pauline Benson of Dallas; a brother, Frank Anderson of Wellington; 2 grandchildren, Sue An Benson Taylor of San Antonio, and Gray Benson of Shamrock; 5 great-grandsons; and one great-great-granddaughter.
