Died at 4 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 1980. She was 89, a native of Mason and a resident of Baton Rouge. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday and after 12:30 p.m. Monday. Religious services at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Green. Burial in Rosedale Cemetery.
Survived by a daughter, Mrs. Helen McMillan, Denham Springs; two sons, Walter L. Rather Jr., Hot Springs, Ark., and John M. Rather, Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Rather Sr.
Pallbearers will be Fred, Charles, Paul and Walter Glenn McMillan Jr., Douglas Rather and John D. Rather.
She was a member of Boeuf Prairie Methodist Church.
