Richard Morton passed away at his
home north of Frankfort, Kansas on
Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. Morton was one of the pioneer
settlers of this county. He leaves
his wife, one son and two daughters
to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held at the
Methodist Episcopal church in
Frankfort on Thursday afternoon
with Reverend Hamilton officiating.
Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery
Frankfort, Kansas.

Richard Morton passed away at his
home in Rock township, Marshall
county, Kansas on Tuesday, January
11, 1898 at 2:15 p.m. He was 57
years and 29 days of age.

Mr. Morton was born at Seaforth,
Canada on December 13, 1840.
He moved to Kansas on April 1,
1870. He was married to Miss
Susan M. Ewing at Centralia, Ks.
on July 27, 1871. He was a conver-
ted member of the Methodist-
Episcipal church since January of
1872.

Mr. Morton homesteaded a portion
of the land comprising the farm
upon which he resided since 1871
to the time of his death.

He had been suffering with heart
trouble for more than the last five
years, there were a few short spells
that had him confined to the house,
but he was able to conduct business
up to his last sickness. On Wednes-
day of last week he was stricken
with paralysis, but had recovered
well enough to be able to walk out
of the house. But on Saturday even-
ing he was talking to his sister Miss
Wealthy Morton for about twenty
minutes, who had arrived from her
home at Huron, and was suddenly
stricken again, and the end came
quickly.

He leaves his wife, two daughters,
Mrs. Clara Haslet and Miss Ettie
Morton, one son, William Morton;
three sisters and three brothers to
mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held at the
Methodist Episcopal church in
Frankfort at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday
with Reverend A.P. Hamilton in
charge of services. Burial was in
the Frankfort Cemetery, Frankfort,
Kansas.
