Elise E. "Eppie" Newman Sterner, 91, of Biglerville, died December 9, 2012.

She was born in Adams County, on May 12, 1921 daughter of the late Paul G. & Alma S. (Sowers) Newman. Her husband of 62 years, Charles L. "Chick" Sterner died Jan. 14, 2007.

Mrs. Sterner graduated in 1939 from Fairfield High School and attended Central Penn Business College.

She worked for many years in retail sales in Gettysburg, Carroll Shoe Co. in Arendtsville, and for 19 years worked for the United States Postal Service in Biglerville, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Biglerville, where she was active with the church choir and altar guild. Her memberships included, Biglerville Kitchenettes, Senior Citizens of Biglerville, Biglerville Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary, Gettysburg Hospital Auxiliary and was a volunteer with the Hospital Thrift Shop.

Eppie is survived by two sisters, Martha Newman Nary of York, Winifred Newman Weikert of Fairfield; a brother, Herbert T. Newman of Biglerville, and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sterner was predeceased by a sister, Jean Newman Baldwin, and three brothers: Paul G. Newman, Jr., Clair E. Newman and Dale C. Newman.

The Family will receive friends, December 12, 2012, at the Monahan Funeral Home, Gettysburg, from 9-10 a.m., graveside funeral services and interment will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Biglerville Cemetery. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will then be held at 11 a.m. from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 25 Franklin St. Biglerville.
