Mr. Levi Clay, a farmer residing near West Hill died from cancer on last Saturday morning at 6 o'clock after an illness of several years. The cancer was first detected in his lip and spread slowly but surely to his neck. With the advance of the disease the pain became intense and for the few days preceding his death, Mr. Clay was in the greatest agony. Medical skill alleviated his sufferings but little.
Mr. Clay was aged about 60 years. He was a farmer by occupation and was widely known for his upright character and cheerful disposition.
The deceased was an ardent Zollingerite and was for years a minister in that denomination.
The following children survive: John S. and Albert of York county; W.S. of Oakville; Mrs. Mac. Graham and Mrs. Mentzer of West Pennsboro township, and Mrs. George Black.
The funeral was held at 10 o'clock this morning and was conducted by a Lebanon, Pa., divine. Interment was made in the Plainfield Cemetery.
