MRS. EMANUEL NELSON

Another of the earlier settlers of the District and for many years a highly respected resident of Bracebridge, Mrs. Emanuel Nelson, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leslie Hart, last Thursday morning. She had been ill for some time and members of her family had been at her bedside. Her daughter, Onetta (Mrs. Harry Shortt) arrived from Miami, Florida shortly before her passing.

Mrs. Nelson was the former Elizabeth Ann Colley and was born at Iram (sic. Higham), Kent County, England, December 12th, 1869. She came to Canada in 1872 and lived for a time in Medonte township, coming later to Macaulay and then to Bracebridge. She was married may 16th, 1885, to Mr. Emanuel Nelson, who died September 6th, 1943. Mrs. Nelson leaves two daughters, Mrs. Harry Shortt, of Miami, and Leola (Mrs. Leslie Hart), of Bracebridge, and three sons, Edwin, of Penetang; Glenwood, of Goderich, and Emanuel, of Parry Sound.

The funeral took place Sunday afternoon from her late home, Rev. W.H. Burgess, of the Bracebridge united Church, conducted the services and interment was made in the United Church cemetery. The bearers were her son, Glenwood, two sons-in-law, Harry Shortt and Leslie Hart, and three grandsons, Ted and Ray Nelson, of Goderich, and Don Hart, of Bracebridge. Attending the funeral from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Shortt, of Miami; Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Nelson, of Penetang; Mr. and Mrs. Glenwood Nelson and Mr. and Mrs. Ray nelson and Ted Nelson, of Goderich; Mrs. Dwight Nelson and Patricia, of Port Carling; Mrs. Emma Francis, of Toronto; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Storey, of Thorold, and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Hoover of Orillia. There were many beautiful floral tributes.

Mrs. Nelson was a devoted wife and mother and a good neighbor. Since her husband's death she had lived quietly, interested mostly in her family. To the sons and daughters we join with many friends in deepest sympathy.
